India has announced its 15-player squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, with Rohit Sharma leading the charge in the quest for glory. The selection process drew attention, particularly regarding the wicketkeeper role, which has been entrusted to Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson.
Pant’s return to international cricket is significant, marking his comeback after recovering from a serious accident in December 2022. Shivan Dube’s exceptional IPL performance secured his spot in the squad, maintaining his presence after featuring in the recent T20I series against Afghanistan.
The bowling lineup showcases India’s spin strength, including Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal, while the pace department will be spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah, supported by Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, and vice-captain Hardik Pandya.
The batting order features familiar names like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, and Suryakumar Yadav, alongside skipper Rohit. Notably absent is KL Rahul, a stalwart in previous T20 World Cup campaigns.
Reserves include Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, and Avesh Khan.
India is placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, and co-hosts USA. Their journey kicks off on June 5 against Ireland in New York, followed by a highly anticipated clash with Pakistan.
Teams have until May 25 to make changes to their squad, subject to approval from the ICC’s Event Technical Committee.
