England, the reigning champions of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, have unveiled their squad for the upcoming 2024 edition, marking the return of Jofra Archer to international cricket after a challenging year-long hiatus due to an elbow injury.
Archer’s journey back to the squad has been marked by several setbacks, including stress fractures and surgery stemming from an unexpected fish tank accident. Despite these hurdles, the talented all-rounder has regained his place in the team.
Joining Archer is the seasoned campaigner Chris Jordan, who maintains his position in the squad despite his last international appearance being almost a year ago.
Leading the batting charge is Jos Buttler, who will also captain the defending champions. The top-order boasts the likes of Will Jacks, Phil Salt, and Jonny Bairstow, while Ben Duckett adds a left-handed dimension to the lineup alongside the experienced Moeen Ali.
The lower order is bolstered by Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, and Sam Curran, providing additional firepower. Adil Rashid takes charge of the spin department with support from Tom Hartley.
The complete England squad for the T20 World Cup includes: Jos Buttler (captain), Moeen Ali, Jofra Archer, Jonathan Bairstow, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Ben Duckett, Tom Hartley, Will Jacks, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Reece Topley, and Mark Wood.
This squad will also feature in the upcoming four-match T20I series against Pakistan starting on May 22. All players currently participating in the Indian Premier League will be available for the series against Pakistan.
England will embark on their journey to the Caribbean on May 31, ahead of their first match against Scotland in Barbados on June 4. They are placed in Group B alongside Australia, Namibia, Scotland, and Oman.
Teams have the flexibility to make changes to their squads until May 25, with any alterations requiring approval from the ICC’s Event Technical Committee.
