Canada has announced a seasoned squad for their debut in next month’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, under the leadership of all-rounder Saad Bin Zafar. This marks an exciting first for the Canadian team as they enter the tournament.
Saad, a left-arm orthodox spinner, brings a wealth of experience to the squad. Key players like top-order batter Aaron Johnson and left-arm seamer Kaleem Sana are also expected to play pivotal roles. The team has a mature lineup, with only four players under the age of 30.
Unfortunately, there was no space for Nikhil Dutta or Srimantha Wijeyeratne in the squad, though Tajinder Singh will be traveling as a reserve.
Canada’s opening match at the T20 World Cup will be against the USA in Dallas on June 1, a team they recently faced in a bilateral series this past April.
The Canadian team is coached by Pubudu Dassanayake, a former Sri Lankan and Canadian international, who took on the coaching role in 2022.
Here is the complete squad for Canada: Saad Bin Zafar (captain), Aaron Johnson, Dilon Heyliger, Dilpreet Bajwa, Harsh Thaker, Jeremy Gordon, Junaid Siddiqui, Kaleem Sana, Kanwarpal Tathgur, Navneet Dhaliwal, Nicholas Kirton, Pargat Singh, Ravinderpal Singh, Rayyankhan Pathan, Shreyas Movva. Reserves include Tajinder Singh, Aaditya Varadharajan, Ammar Khalid, Jatinder Matharu, and Parveen Kumar.
Teams can make changes to their squads until May 25, after which any changes will need approval from the ICC’s Event Technical Committee.
