Oman has announced their squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, with batting all-rounder Aqib Ilyas named as the team’s new captain for the upcoming tournament set to kick off on June 1.
In a nod to continuity, former captain Zeeshan Maqsood retains his place in the squad, bringing his wealth of experience to the team. Aqib expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, emphasizing his commitment to leading the team to success.
The squad draws heavily from the recent ACC Premier Cup, with eight members of the 2021 T20 World Cup squad included for the 2024 campaign. Leading the bowling attack once again is left-arm yorker specialist Bilal Khan, supported by talents like Kaleemullah, Fayyaz Butt, and Shakeel Ahmad.
While Shakeel Ahmad is relatively new to the team, he joins the spin department alongside all-rounders Aqib and Zeeshan, providing depth and versatility.
In the batting department, Kashyap Prajapati and Naseem Khushi are expected to play crucial roles at the top order, with wicket-keeper batter Pratik Athavale and Ayaan Khan contributing lower down the lineup.
Notably absent from the squad are opener Jatinder Singh and Samay Shrivastav.
Here is the complete Oman squad: Aqib Ilyas (Captain), Zeeshan Maqsood, Kashyap Prajapati, Pratik Athavale (wicket-keeper), Ayaan Khan, Shoaib Khan, Mohammad Nadeem, Naseem Khushi (wicket-keeper), Mehran Khan, Bilal Khan, Rafiullah, Kaleemullah, Fayyaz Butt, Shakeel Ahmad, Khalid Kail.
