Afghanistan has announced their 15-member team for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, which is set to take place in the West Indies and the USA in June. The team will be captained by Rashid Khan.
The squad features several new faces compared to the 2022 roster. Notably, Karim Janat, Mohammad Ishaq, and Noor Ahmad have been included in the team lineup.
Hashmatullah Shahidi, who captained the team in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, is not in the squad, with his most recent T20 international game dating back to 2022.
Nangyal Kharoti, a promising young player who debuted internationally in March this year against Ireland, has also earned a spot. The 20-year-old made a significant impact in that series, taking five wickets across three matches at an impressive economy rate of 5.90.
Mohammad Ishaq, another young talent and wicketkeeper-batter, who previously participated in the 2020 and 2022 ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cups, has been selected as well.
Rashid will spearhead the team’s spin attack with support from Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Nangyal Kharoti, and the experienced Mohammad Nabi.
The pace attack will consist of Naveen-ul-Haq, Fareed Ahmad, and Fazalhaq Farooqi, all of whom have retained their places in the squad.
The full squad is as follows: Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Ibrahim Zadran, Azmatullah Omarzai, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Ishaq, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Karim Janat, Rashid Khan (captain), Nangyal Kharoti, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Naveen-ul-Haq, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Fareed Ahmad Malik.
